The admission requirements for the MA (Research) are as shown:
A Bachelor's degree with minimum 2nd class honours upper or Honours (Distinction) or equivalent; in a field relevant to the proposed research topic from a recognized university;
For applicants whose mother tongue is not English, a good IELTS score of at least 7.0 is required. This requirement is waived if applications have earned their bachelor's degree from a university where English is the medium of instruction;
To demonstrate the ability to pursue research in the applicant's proposed field of advanced study, applicants should include with their application a 1,000 word research proposal; portfolio, if applicable; samples of academic writing; and a personal statement on why they intend to pursue the proposed area of study.
Nanyang Technological University's academic year commences in August and ends in July the following year. ADM currently has one intake in August per academic year. The application deadline is shown below:
Applicants are selected for interviews on the basis of their academic record, portfolio, and research proposal. Your research proposal must show that you are ready to write a MA thesis that can be supervised at the School of Art, Design and Media, NTU.
Call for August 2020 Admission Intake
Applications are now accepted for the August intake of AY2020/2021.
All excellent applications with research proposals from all areas in art, design and media are welcome, subject to the availability of potential supervisors. The School particularly welcomes research proposals in the following focus areas, and priority will be given to proposals in alignment with both the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the National Innovation Challenges of Singapore:
For Art (Art History, Heritage Studies, Cultural Studies): Augmenting Human Imagination;
For Design (Product/Industrial Design, Graphic Design/Visual Communication, Interaction): Designing Sustainability;
For Media (Animation, Film, Photography): AR, VR, and Mixed Reality for the Creative Industry and the Advancement of Learning;
For Fine Art (Painting, Sculpture, Color Theory, Visual Music, Interactive Installation, Projection Mapping, Multimedia Performance Art, Emerging Media Art): exploring creativity through experimental methods in contemporary aesthetics;
Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) for Art, Design and Media (i.e., designing distributed multimedia computing in the online physical-digital environment): exploring novel pedagogies for studio-based creation and learning.

An original and creative piece of work related to the proposed research area. It could be a drawing, computer animations, short films, etc.
It could be an undergraduate essay or a published / unpublished article

Before you provide the name and email address of your referees, please ensure that they have already agreed to fill out the online referee report form for your NTU application.
- Scholarly writing sample, if available
- Personal statement
A short essay on your aspirations and why you have identified ADM as the place to pursue your Master of Arts.

- Personal Particulars page of passport / Identification card
- One recent passport-sized colour photograph
