Master degree from a recognized institution which is relevant to the proposed disciplines or areas of research;
For applicants whose mother tongue is not English, a good IELTS score of at least 7.0 is required. Candidates with an undergraduate or Masters degree from an institution where the language of instruction is English are exempted from taking the IELTS;
It is important to note that besides meeting the basic academic requirements, applicants will also be assessed on the strength of their portfolios which have to meet the highest professional and academic standards.

Applicants are selected for interviews on the basis of their academic record, portfolio, and research proposal. Your research proposal must show that you are ready to write a PhD thesis that can be supervised at the School of Art, Design and Media, NTU.
Call for January 2020 Admission Intake
Applications are now accepted for the January intake of AY2019/2020.
All excellent applications with research proposals from all areas in art, design and media are welcome, subject to the availability of potential supervisors. The School particularly welcomes research proposals in the following focus areas, and priority will be given to proposals in alignment with both the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the National Innovation Challenges of Singapore:
For Art (Art History, Heritage Studies, Cultural Studies): Augmenting Human Imagination;
For Design (Product/Industrial Design, Graphic Design/Visual Communication, Interaction): Designing Sustainability;
For Media (Animation, Film, Photography): AR, VR, and Mixed Reality for the Creative Industry and the Advancement of Learning;
For Fine Art (Painting, Sculpture, Color Theory, Visual Music, Interactive Installation, Projection Mapping, Multimedia Performance Art, Emerging Media Art): exploring creativity through experimental methods in contemporary aesthetics;
Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) for Art, Design and Media (i.e., designing distributed multimedia computing in the online physical-digital environment): exploring novel pedagogies for studio-based creation and learning.
