Second Major

 

Second Major Programme for ADM Students (for Students Admitted to Year 1 from AY2011-12 onwards)

Overview of Programme

In addition to their BFA majors, ADM students can choose to pursue a Second Major available in the School of Humanities (SOH), School of Social Sciences (SSS) and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI), under the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. A full list of Second Major programmes is indicated on the following pages in the School's website. Courses for the Second Major are registered as Unrestricted Electives and excluded from the S/U option.

Curriculum Requirements

Students need to complete 33 to 35 AUs in 2nd Major courses taken as Unrestricted Electives.​

Should a student drop out of the 2nd Major programme halfway, he/she will then have to fulfill the AHSS and 5th GER Elective requirement. The additional UE AUs will also be taken away if they have not already utilized the AUs.

 ​

Selection Criteria

  • Students will be admitted to the 2nd Major Programme from the 2nd Year onwards, based on CGPA scores at the end of their 1st Year of Study.

  • Generally a CGPA score of 4.0 and above is required for admission.

  • The AU requirements for students from ADM taking a 2nd Major are summarized in the table below:

Second Major in Art History for SOH/SSS/SCI Students (for Students Admitted to Year 1 from AY2011-12 onwards)

Overview of Programme

The 2nd Major in Art History will offer top students at SOH, SSS and SCI under College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences an intermediary exposure to methodologies and practices of Art History. Beginning with broad studies of artworks and media from diverse cultural and historical phases, the 2nd major will develop deeper capacities for the critical analysis of distinct artistic cultures.

NOTE:
The courses can be done in any order a student chooses although we strongly recommend that students take the three core courses first, starting with Introduction to the Histories of Art I, before or at least simultaneously with the electives. 

The core courses are introductory classes and students who have taken them will be in a better position to get more out of the electives which are more advanced or specialised in their focus.
