DA3001 Introduction to Bio-Centric Art and Design 

Through 12 video lectures, online activities and active class participation, this course will engage the students in applying bio-centric concepts to art and design.

Learning Objective

To learn basic innovative concepts of bio-centric art (bio-art, bio-design; eco-art); to link the bio-art practices with the basic scientific concepts; to identify and discuss major social, ethical, environmental, and health related, issues and problems raised by bio-art and bio-design practices.

This course introduces bio-centric art and design practices at the crossroads of art, design, media, science, natural world and human society: 

  • Bio-Art, Bio-Design, and creative and artistic media

  • Bio-Art, Bio-Design, and creative and artistic media

  • Bio- and eco-art/ design in the age of ecological awareness and sustainability.

Learning Outcome

Students will recognize trends, approaches and practices in bio- and eco-art and design. They will be able to discuss basic science concepts behind the bio-artworks, develop overview of innovative ideas and assess social, political and ethical issues raised by bio-and eco-art and design works. Involved in online learning activities, the students will be able to apply keyword vocabulary for content tagging. ​
