Course Description

:

Learning Objective

To develop in the students the practice-based skills and knowledge that was delivered in DR2005 Computer-Aided Design Workshop I. To introduce students to basic object animation and stills compositing.

Content

This course focuses on the intermediate principles and techniques for the design, visualization and presentation of product designs. Building on the content and assignments learned from DR2005, students do a series of increasing complex assignments to develop their modelling and presentation skills. Workflows that serve various modelling and visualization tasks will also be covered, such as working from storyboards, camera settings and lighting and 2D image integration.

• Basic keyframe animation for design communication

• Introduction to basic output render integration with 2D image using 2D compositing

• Design Project – creation of 3-D models and presentation materials to compliment Product Design II (DR2004).

Learning Outcome

The students will be able to use computer aided design within a larger ideation, development and production workflow. The students will be familiar with basic timeline and compositing skills.

Student Assessment

  1. Final Assessment: 40%

  2. Continuous Assessment: 60% (of which at least 15% is participation)
